The world's first and only factory, which gathers all stages of solar panel production under one roof, has been put into service. Kalyon Solar Technologies, the world's first and only fully integrated factory that gathers all stages of solar panel production, including R&D, under one roof, has started production.
Kalyon Solar Technologies Factory, which will make a great contribution to Turkey's domestic and national energy move with an investment of 400 million dollars, will produce for Konya Karapınar Solar Power Plant with an installed capacity of 1000 MW in the first stage. A total investment of $1.4 billion in the factory and power plant will contribute to Turkey's clean energy needs.
The factory, which will employ 1,400 people in the first phase, will have an annual production capacity of 500 MW. After the installation of the solar panels produced in the factory at Karapınar Solar Power Plant; The renewable energy that the power plant will produce will increase Turkey's solar energy production by 20 percent.
When the Karapınar Solar Power Plant becomes operational, 1.5 million tons of fossil fuel and carbon dioxide emissions will be prevented annually, while import substitution of 400 million dollars will be provided with the added value to be provided from the factory and the power plant.
The factory also incorporates a giant R&D center established on an area of 2,500 square meters with the aim of localizing not only energy but also technology. The R&D center, where 100 researchers will take part, will carry out joint studies with various universities, research centers and companies from Turkey and the world.
The factory also carries out ingot production from poly-silicon, which is one of the most important stages of solar panel production and requires high technology. With this feature, it became the first and only factory producing ingot not only in Turkey but also in Europe and the Middle East.
Kalyon Solar Technologies Factory, one of the largest investments in Turkey's domestic and national renewable energy production target, was opened in Ankara.
During the ceremony hosted by Cemal Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kalyon Holding, the first installation of the solar panels produced during the ceremony was made to the solar power plant in Konya Karapınar.
The worldis the only island
With an investment of 400 mof dollars, the factory, where domestic solar panel production from A to Z will be realized, will produce for Konya Karapınar Solar Power Plant in the first stage and will produce 500 Megawatts of panels annually. The factory, which has 4 different factories in solar panel production, ingot, wafer, cell and panel production, as well as R&D under one roof, has the feature of being a first in the world with this feature. In addition to panel production, the factory will also serve as a hub for the development of new technologies for solar energy.
Cemal Kalyoncu: "Renewable energy is important for the future"
Cemal Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kalyon Holding, who made statements about the fully integrated factory investment, which is a first in the world, said that Turkey has come to a good point in energy and that their aim is to carry Turkey to higher ranks in this field with new investments. Underlining that in order to gain strength in energy competition, it is necessary to produce not only energy but also information and technology with domestic resources, Kalyoncu said, "There is a great transformation in energy in the world. Fossil fuels pollute our world.
The remedy is clean energy! Climate change and the environment have to be the main agenda item for all of us. That's why we need to turn to clean energy sources. For this purpose; Kalyon Solar Technologies Factory; We have implemented it as an investment that will give strength and momentum to Turkey in domestic, national and renewable energy. We are building the solar power plant, which will be one of the largest in the world with a total investment of 1 billion dollars with a capacity of 1000 megawatts, in Konya Karapınar. All panels to be used in this power plant will be produced in our factory."
"There is intense demand from abroad, the capacity will increase to 1000 megawatts"
Underlining that the 4 stages of the processes involved in solar panel production are gathered under one roof, Cemal Kalyoncu said, "We have managed to establish this factory, which cannot be established in 6 years, in 1.5 years. We established our factory in a closed area of 100 thousand square meters. We have provided employment for 1,400 people. Producing only the solar panel and energy is not enough to be local and national. Information and technology should also be produced. We have started to produce solar panels with an annual capacity of 500 megawatts in our currently installed factory. Due to the intense demands from abroad, we will increase our production capacity to 1,000 megawatts this year. Our aim is to increase the exports of our country."
"It will be the technology base of clean energy"
Kalyoncu said the following about the R&D investment: "Our factory, which will employ 1400 people, will also be a center that produces technology. 100 researchers will work in the R&D center on an area of 2,500 square meters. By cooperating with various universities, R&D centers and companies experienced in this field in the world, studies will be carried out in the fields of increasing the efficiency of cell modules, smart factory applications and the development of battery technologies. Hasan Kalyoncu University and METU Solar Research Center will also be important stakeholders in these studies. This center will also develop different technologies. It will increase the efficiency of cells and modules. Smart factory work will be done and work will be done to develop battery technologies."
"Great contribution to the environment and economy"
Cemal Kalyoncu, who also gave information about the Solar Power Plant in Konya Karapınar, said: "We are building a 1,000 megawatt solar power plant with an investment of 1 billion dollars using 3.5 million panels on a land the size of 2,600 football fields in Konya Karapınar. This power plant alone will meet the annual electricity needs of 2 million people. This power plant will produce odorless, chimneyless, waste-free and inexhaustible energy. Thus, we will increase the share of solar energy in our country by 20 percent. In addition, 1.5 million tons of fossil fuel and carbon dioxide emissions will be prevented every year. With our factory and power plant, we will pay 400 million dollars less annually abroad. With the size of this power plant, we will be one of the largest in the world. This investment, which directly concerns the future and prosperity of our country, will be a job that not only we but all our citizens will be honored with."
The only country in Europe and the Middle East that produces ingot
Kalyon Solar Technologies Factory, which will carry out all stages of solar panel production, will be the first and only factory in Europe and the Middle East to carry out ingot production, which is one of the most important stages of production. Ingot production, the first of four stages of solar panel production, requires superior technology and knowledge. Poly-silicon in the form of raw materials is melted at a temperature of about 1450C and takes the form of mono-crystalline silicon ingot. The produced ingots are sliced 180 micrometers thick with the help of diamond-coated wire saws with a speed of 15 meters per second. Silicon slices that have undergone more than 30 chemical and physical semiconductor manufacturing processes are becoming photovoltaic solar cells.
