Simplifying Process Automation and Security System Engineering
Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS and Triconex smart enclosures reduce start-up time by 30 percent for high-hazard industries. The predesigned, pre-tested design increases control and security system flexibility while reducing system engineering time by 25 percent.
Schneider Electric has launched the latest generation of smart enclosures for EcoStruxure Triconex security and EcoStruxure Foxboro distributed control systems.
New enclosures designed for oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical and other high-hazard industrial enterprises speed up project execution and reduce start-up costs. Predesigned, pre-tested enclosures support Schneider Electric's flexible, intelligent engineering program, which shortens project schedules and increases project execution flexibility.
Schneider Electric's smart enclosure line includes:
• EcoStruxure Triconex smart enclosure mounted in the safety zone; designed for outdoor use (including hazardous areas) to provide I/O distribution flexibility when needed.
• EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS equipment room smart enclosure; designed to be installed in air-conditioned, non-hazardous equipment room environments.
• EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS field-mounted smart enclosure; designed for use outdoors (including hazardous areas) to provide I/O distribution flexibility when needed.

Hany Fouda, Vice President of Process Automation Systems Portfolio, Schneider Electric, said: "Smart enclosures perfectly exemplify our commitment to investing in our core process automation technologies to help our customers increase operational profitability. Traditional project designs often undergo several iterations, which means a waste of time to wait to lock the configuration into a specific I/O module. The team can then deploy and ship the system faster. Field wiring and control room construction can begin much earlier. Faster start-up means faster production time and therefore faster revenue."
Smart enclosures significantly reduce cabinet design time and simplify system design, require less drawing and documentation, and involve fewer engineering, inspection and approval cycles. The positioning of the universal I / O on the site significantly reduces the number of wiring connections and traditional marlling cabinets, which reduces finishing manpower and costs.
As a result, smart enclosure customers have experienced:
• 25 percent reduction in cab engineering design and documentation time
• 30 percent reduction in project schedules
• 30-50 percent reduction in traditional marshaling cabinets
Intelligent System Design for Faster, Easier Commissioning
Designing an intelligent system across the plant starts with smart enclosures. Schneider Electric's flexible and intelligent engineering program separates hardware from software, eliminating the need for full staging and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Program risks are reduced because the process data can be used earlier. Industrial engineers can benefit from best practice rules, templates, and virtual engineering and testing to reduce design errors and increase operational readiness.
Intelligent design then extends to commissioning. Because smart enclosures and programming are factory-consistent, managed and tested, commissioning cycle time is shortened. Thus, in pre-designed smart enclosures, many of the pre-FAT requirements are eliminated or shortened.
Designed for High Hazard Industries
Schneider Electric's new line of smart enclosures is ideal for high-hazard industries and can be connected to a wide range of field devices. Each of them is a pre-approved cabinet, fully packed with:
• Universal I/O modules with adaptive field termination panels
• Redundant power supply voltage selection
• Comprehensive cabin documentation
• Standard installation and commissioning guides
