Schneider Electric Introduces the First Liquid-Cooled Integrated IT Cabinet for Data Centers

· Schneider Electric, along with Avnet and Iceotope, created the industry's first commercial chassis-based integrated cabinet with immersed liquid cooling.

· With this new product, chip densities increase, while lower operating costs, higher efficiency, less carbon footprint and fanless operation are possible.

· The immersed liquid-cooled integrated IT cabinet is a milestone in the industrialization of liquid-cooled server solutions.

Schneider Electric, a worldwide expert in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, announced that it has developed the industry's first commercial chassis-based integrated cabinet with immersed liquid cooling together with Avnet and Iceotope. Optimized for compute-intensive applications, the solution combines Iceotope's liquid cooling technology with a high-power GPU server to improve energy efficiency. Avnet integrates Schneider Electric's NetShelter liquid-cooled rack system with a liquid-cooled server for simple deployment to data centers or Edge computing environments. Available in conjunction with EcoStruxure IT Expert, next-generation data center management software, and EcoStruxure Asset Advisor, the digital service, this solution makes the system EcoStruxure-compatible™ and ready.

The first-of-its-kind liquid-cooled solution is ideal for applications such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithm training where high processing demands require greater energy use. Recently, institutions such as Gartner have published very interesting reports on this subject. According to Gartner, liquid cooling is a technology to follow. Analyst Henrique Cecci similarly advises data center operators to "Maximize cooling energy efficiencies using modern liquid cooling solutions." Despite the high power density of GPUs, liquid cooling delivers higher efficiency, lower operating costs, higher reliability, and near-quiet operation. Avnet, Iceotope and Schneider Electric have announced plans to expand their offerings by including other server OEMs in the partnership as demand grows.

Kevin Brown, CEO and Senior Vice President of Schneider Electric Innovation and Secure Power, said of this new solution; "Schneider Electric is committed to making its data centers more sustainable, and liquid cooling is a very strong approach to this. This latest development represents an important step forward in the industrialization of chassis-based immersion solutions, enabling the efficiency and efficiency of tank-based solutions while offering the compatibility and serviceability of more traditional 'direct-to-chip' liquid cooling systems. Given the increase in transaction-intensive applications, we think this approach is extremely promising."

Scott MacDonald, Global President of Avnet Integrated; "As a leading global technology solutions provider, Avnet has consistently excelled in adapting to changing markets, trends and technologies. We have done this by partnering with the world's best technology designers and hardware manufacturers. Finally, we partnered with liquid cooling expert Iceotope and global infrastructure giant Schneider Electric to create the best possible liquid cooling solutions for our customers. We are excited to integrate, implement and support this solution, which intelligently addresses the cooling challenges customers face due to increased chip densities, challenging IT environments, rising energy costs, water use constraints and space constraints."

Iceotope CEO David Craig said; "At Iceotope, we are delighted to introduce our innovative chassis-level immersion liquid cooling technology to the wider market. This includes easy-to-scale liquid cooling technology from edge computing devices to larger server farms in the cloud. And compared to direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems, our approach is more efficient, more reliable, saves more space, eliminates fans, and reduces costs when installed across the data center."

About Avnet

Avnet is a global technology solutions provider with extensive expertise in design, product marketing and supply chain that provides an ecosystem for customers at every stage of the product lifecycle. Avnet turns ideas into smart solutions, reducing the time, cost and complexity of bringing products to market. For nearly a century, the company has been helping customers and suppliers around the world realize the transformative possibilities of technology.

About Iceotope

Iceotope's next-generation cooling technologies manage the heat generated by electronic devices from the cloud to the Edge. Chassis-level immersion cooling technologies can easily adapt to increased heat loads from the latest CPU roadmaps by precisely distributing electrical fluids. Designed to fit all standard form factors, including renewal, these technologies can cool the entire IT group, from cloud to Edge, in every use case. They can also be compressed into smaller proprietary form factors to provide on-site edge computing, networking and storage not possible to date. The company's technologies operate in complete silence, eliminating the need for fans and air-cooling infrastructure, resulting in game-changing reductions in energy and water consumption and significant cost reductions in the design, construction, and operation of data centers. These state-of-the-art products are dust-tight, heat and moisture proof so they can be installed even in the harshest environments.
