Renewable Energy Research Association – YENADER , in the light of the latest trends and developments in the world in the field of renewable energy, our country's potentials, opportunities and projects were discussed by the Renewable Energy Summithonorary speakers we; T.R. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, President of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol, Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesco La Camera were the Director.
In the field of the latest trends and trends in the field of renewable energy and the opportunities our country has, national and international academicians and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) took their places as speakers at the digital summit.
TURKEY'S RENEWABLE ENERGY JOURNEY
T.C., who made the honorary speech at Yenader Digital Summit. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, stating that the share of renewable energy in Turkey and the world has increased, said, "Renewable energy investments have not slowed down even in the pandemic. This shows us that the green energy transition will continue exponentially." Said.
Dönmez, stating that a similar factory of the Middle East and Europe, which was previously implemented in solar energy, will be established in the field of wind energy, said, "We will make a similar factory in wind energy. The plant is complete. It will start production very soon. Thus, we will have taken another important step for the indigenization of technology, which is one of the most important goals of our YEKA competitions, the employment of domestic human resources, and R & D and innovation in energy technologies."
Stating that Turkey is approaching the limit of 100 thousand megawatts in total installed power, Dönmez said, "As of today, 52.3 percent of our installed power, that is, more than half of it, is from renewable energy. Our electricity production from renewable energy has been above the 40 percent band for the last 3 years. This rate was around 25 percent 10 years ago."
"WE ARE UNFAIR TO GEOTHERMAL AND HYDROELECTRICITY IN RENEWABLE ENERGY"
International Energy Agency (IEA) President Fatih Birol pointed out that wind and solar come to mind when it comes to renewable energy, but there are two other types of renewable energy and said: "We are unfair to them. One of them is geothermal energy, the other is hydropower. Geothermal energy is a type that can be used in electricity generation, heating and industry, has completed its technological development and has extremely low costs, but it is not written much about it. Let's not forget that. We also forget about hydroelectricity. As of now, when we look at the world, the share of solar and wind, which we talk about a lot, in total electricity production is 9 percent, and hydroelectricity alone is 17 percent. It's twice as much, but it's a bit like an orphan. Hydropower and geothermal energy are not on the agenda enough. Perhaps in many western countries the potential is not on the agenda because it is almost complete. This June, we're going to make a broadcast dedicated exclusively to hydropower."
Stating that 90 percent of the new additional capacity commissioned in the world last year is from renewable energy, Birol continued his words, "Investors have almost built nothing but renewable energy. Our expectations are no different this year. There are huge reductions in costs, especially in solar and wind. We said last year that solar is the new king of the world's electricity sector, and what we announced in our latest report confirmed this."
"TURKEY IS ADVANCING RAPIDLY, ESPECIALLY IN THE FIELD OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY"
Francesco La Camera, Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), stated that more than 260 GW of renewable energy capacity was added worldwide in 2020, "This means breaking the record of 50% in the world despite COVID. 80% of all new electricity capacity added comes from renewable energy sources. We are also seeing a decline in the capacity of non-renewable energy. In 2020, total fossil fuel investments fell to 60 GW. This is also contributed by the fact that renewable energy is highly cost-competitive. "The vast majority of renewable energy technologies compete with fossil fuels and even surpass them in some areas."
Francesco La Camera " We see that Turkey has increased its share of renewable energy to over 50%. We also welcome additions of 10 GW of solar and 16 GW of wind energy for 2030. Turkey is also advancing rapidly, especially in the field of geothermal. With the recent addition of 1.5 GW, it has become the 4th largest geothermal producer in the world. We clearly see Turkey's recently announced approach to green transformation. As IRENA, we have been supporting this approach since the beginning of the pandemic period. It is inevitable that the transformation will be systematic and inclusive here. Only with such an approach can we maximize the benefits and minimize the negative effects."
"OUR RENEWABLE ENERGY INVESTMENT OFFENSIVE HAS MADE US MORE RESPECTED ALL OVER THE WORLD"
Stating that he is very happy to lead such a great organization as YENADER, YENADER Association President, OECD Permanent Representative Ambassador Dr. Kerem Alkin said, "We closely follow the developments and new investments in renewable energy in our country with great excitement. As Turkey, especially in 2019 and 2020, when our recent 'renewable energy' investment offensive has taken us to a respectable and significant step in the European and world rankings, we need to remind the whole world that we are a Turkey that has already reduced its carbon emissions for 2 consecutive years.By revealing its historical value and putting forward a '2071' perspective, Turkey can once again strengthen its determination on a 'green future', 'sustainable future' and 'zero carbon society'."
